We are no longer building saddle trees. We have two saddle fit videos available on our westernsaddlefit.com website. Western Saddle Fit - The Basics, aimed at riders, is available either on DVD or streaming on Vimeo while the six hour series Well Beyond the Basics, aimed more for professionals but understandable by anyone, is available by streaming on Vimeo. (We left this website up because we have had many requests to keep the information available.)
Wood Post Horns on Swell Fork Trees
The pictures on this page show some different horns on swell fork trees. For more information on horns in general please see our Basics on Horns page. For comparisons of horns between Wades and swell forks and to compare stock thicknesses please see our Wood Post Horns page.
We use a stock thickness of 4 ¼” for wood post swell forks, unless requested otherwise, because the thicker stock balances the look of the bigger horn. If we build swell forks with stock thicknesses 4 ¾” and greater, we will increase the top cut angle so the fork doesn’t look too downhill. This changes the overall look of the horn relative to the fork. These pictures are to help you see how the different combination of horn height, cap size, pitch and stock thickness will look. We can make changes to any of these, so if you have an idea you want to try out please contact us to talk about it.
Please note: These pictures are taken with the tree on a flat table. The horn pitch will be flatter when on a horse.
